Purpose of the Role

In close collaboration with the Senior Occupational Therapist, to provide a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to children and adults within Resilience Healthcare services.  To work within the competencies of this post and as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the agreed systems, policies, and operations of Resilience Healthcare Services.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy from a 3rd level institution offering a programme of study accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
  • Hold a qualification, that is recognised / validated by CORU.
  • Fully registered (or registration in process) with CORU.
  • Have a minimum of one placement in area of intellectual disabilities and /or ASD children or adults.

Desirable

  • Training / experience in Sensory Integration.
  • Competent in parent, service user and staff training.
  • Children First / Safeguarding training.
  • Have an awareness of restrictive practice and positive risk taking.
  • Seating and Posture Management assessment and intervention.

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • Experience of assessment, programme development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Ability to evaluate service needs and prioritise accordingly.
  • Experience of working with children and adults with ASD and ID.
  • Good communication (verbal and written) and good interpersonal skills.
  • Competency to use relevant IT and other required systems.
  • Experience in developing and presenting training for other professionals / carers.

Desirable

  • Involvement in research.
  • Ability to train staff around the sensory needs of service users’ integration.

Transport

Essential

  • Access to a car and a full clean driving licence.
  • Be available to travel to all service locations as required.

Competencies

Essential

  • Previous experience working in the disability sector.
  • Ability to plan and adjust intervention plans to meet the needs of children with physical, intellectual and/or sensory disabilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development.
  • Ability to take responsibility for planning and managing an independent workload with competing demands.

Desirable

  • To have a knowledge of Sensory Integration Intervention Strategies such as Ayres, SI Intervention, Environmental Modification, Sensory stimulation protocols.

Other

Essential

  • Knowledge of disability legislation in Ireland.
  • Understanding of social model of disability.
  • Flexible working hours – hybrid working required, which will occasionally be out of office hours. The allocation of these hours will be in accordance with the needs of the service and will be monitored and managed with the line manager.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of HIQA regulations.

Job Responsibilities

Professional / Clinical

  • Responsibility for ensuring the delivery of an effective, efficient and safe Occupational Therapy Service as part of the Occupational Therapy Department and in line with the Resilience Family Principles.
  • Provide assessment, diagnostics, care planning and therapeutic service delivery to children and adults attending the services.
  • Work in partnership with support teams, parents/caregivers and other stakeholders throughout all stages of service delivery ensuring adequate support for the facilitation of service delivery and the implementation of Occupational Therapy programmes for service users as required.
  • Manage clinical and non-clinical caseloads appropriate to the post.
  • Become familiar with, and work in accordance with, relevant policies, HIQA standards, New Directions, legislation and professional policies, guidelines and requirements to ensure safe practice and high standards of service delivery.
  • Promote a culture of Trauma Informed Care that values equality, diversity and respect in the workplace.
  • In conjunction with the OT Department, contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and guidelines while adhering to existing standards and protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance for service support teams on how to effectively implement intervention plans and monitor the impact and outcomes of same.
  • In addition to clinical responsibility, you will be expected to develop further areas of clinical expertise as the service demands, in line with the organisation’s commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • To advise the Senor Occupational Therapist of any current needs and future service developments and requirements.

Administrative

  • Keep up to date records, reports and statistics as required.
  • Engage in service planning activities in consultation with Senior Occupational Therapist and all members of Clinical Services Team.
  • Represent the OT Department / Clinical Services Team at meetings and conferences as desired.

Health & Safety

  • Comply with the policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Document appropriately and report any near misses, hazards and accidents and bring them to the attention of relevant person.
  • Work in a safe manner with due care attention to the safety of self and others.
  • Be aware of risk management issues , identify risks and take appropriate action.
  • Comply with department procedures with regards to assessment, recommendations and / or manufacturing of all assistive devices.

Education & Training

  • Contribute to, and participate in, OT and MDT education and training series.
  • Partake in career and personal development planning.
  • Maintain own professional development and competence.
  • Actively participate in induction, clinical supervision, mentoring , appraisal, clinical reflection and be open to reflective practice.
  • To attend mandatory and other relevant training as directed by Resilience Healthcare.
