Senior Grade Speech & Language Therapist
Purpose of the role
Provide a high-quality Speech & Language Therapy service to children and adults within Resilience Healthcare services in close collaboration with the Speech & Language Therapist and to work within the competencies of this post and as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the agreed systems, policies, and operations of Resilience Healthcare Services.
Location: Hybrid – combination of work-from-home and in service locations across Kildare, Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Wexford
Job type: Permanent full-time (40 hours per week)
Essential Requirements:
- Degree/Masters qualification in Speech and Language Therapy or its equivalent
- Have a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience working as a Speech & Language Therapist
- Fully registered with CORU
- Access to a car and full driving licence
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the motivation to work independently as a therapist support service users in their own homes and as part of a MTD Team.
- Clinical experience of working with children and adults with a variety of complex needs including autism, Intellectual Disability, mental health, behaviours of concern and Physical Disability
- Competent in working with Dysphagia
- Training relevant to communication needs e.g. Lámh, PECS, AAC, social skills, Intensive Interaction.
- Experience in training other professionals/carers in communication supports.
Role and Responsibilities
Professional / Clinical / Administrative
- Responsibility for ensuring the delivery of an effective, efficient and safe Speech & Language Therapy caseload within a disability-specific model of trauma informed care and in line with Resilience Healthcare Family Principles.
- Provide assessment, diagnostics, care planning and therapeutic service delivery to children and adults assigned to your caseload.
- Work in partnership with support teams, parents/caregivers and other stakeholders throughout all stages of service delivery ensuring adequate support for the facilitation of service delivery and the implementation of Speech and Language Therapy programmes for service users as required.
- Accept and operate the Speech & Language Therapy caseload of this service user group, using Resilience Healthcare referral, prioritisation and caseload systems.
- Provide training and guidance for service support teams on how to effectively implement intervention plans and monitor the impact and outcomes of same.
- In addition to clinical responsibility, you will be expected to develop further areas of clinical expertise as the service demands, in line with the organisation’s commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- To advise the Senor Speech & Language Therapist of any current needs and future service developments and requirements.
- Assist in the setting up of Case reviews and attend these and other meetings as required.
- To be familiar with relevant regulations and standards for residential and disability services and provide Speech & Language Therapy plans and intervention in line with same.
- To participate in relevant working groups and committees as required such as Human Rights, Restricted Practices committees etc.
- To be responsible for the safety and maintenance of any equipment supplied for Occupational Therapy services.
- Maintain and promote good communication and relationships with all other disciplines in the service, working within the agreed policies, systems, and guidelines.
- Participate in regular team meetings and department meetings as required.
- Maintain and update professional knowledge and skills in Speech & Language Therapy and be aware of current research and the implications of this for the service through self-education, training, and professional development.
- Assist in the setting and monitoring of clinical standards, evaluation of practice, quality control, clinical audit, research, and development as appropriate.
- Maintain regular communication with the Senior Speech & Language Therapist as required and appropriate.
- To engage in joint work with other members of the Team and Services regarding parent and staff training, working with educators, therapy groups and participation in programme planning, service delivery and evaluation as required.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records relating to service users using the online record system.
- Support the principles of Person-Centred Planning and the implementation of our PCP policies and practice throughout the organisation.
- Attend clinical supervision meetings as requested and agreed.
Health and Safety
- To maintain a safe environment for service users, employees and visitors by following appropriate quality and risk assessment and reporting.
- To develop and maintain a risk register for the allocated caseload.
- To ensure implementation and adherence to established policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, infection control etc.
- To observe, report and take appropriate action on any matter which may be detrimental to service user’s care or well-being or may inhibit the efficient provision of care.
- To ensure completion of incident / near miss forms, Clinical risk assessments and appropriate reporting.
- To adhere to company policies in relation to the care and safety of any equipment associated with service user care including maintenance to an appropriate standard.
Education and Training
- To engage in continuous professional development by keeping up to date with literature, research, and new developments in Speech & Language Therapy.
- To attend mandatory and other relevant training for the role
