Purpose of Role

The post holder will offer a high-quality, person-centred Occupational Therapy service to the children and adults we support, enabling them to take part in the everyday activities that matter to them at home, in their day service and in their communities, and to live the lives they choose. This includes leading assessment and intervention across a complex caseload, and providing leadership, clinical supervision, training and coaching to our Occupational Therapy team, employees, families and carers. There is a strong emphasis on working as part of the Clinical Services team and the wider multidisciplinary team, and on supporting the continued development of Occupational Therapy across Resilience Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice & Caseload Management

  • Manage a complex Occupational Therapy caseload of children and adults with disabilities, including assessment, goal setting, intervention and review.
  • Carry out functional, sensory, environmental and seating and postural assessments using standardised and non-standardised tools.
  • Develop evidence-based intervention plans tailored to each person’s unique needs, goals and preferences.
  • Provide specialist guidance on sensory processing, environmental and sensory design, assistive technology, equipment and adaptations to support independence and participation.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment, care planning and review, including case conferences and person-centred planning meetings.
  • Work in partnership with the person, their family and support teams at every stage, ensuring plans are practical, understood and implemented as intended.

Clinical Supervision, Support & Practitioner Development

  • Provide regular clinical supervision to Occupational Therapists (Basic Grade), in line with CORU’s Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
  • Support caseload management and prioritisation across the Occupational Therapy team and identify individual and group training requirements.
  • Review practitioner capability and support the continuing professional development of team members.
  • Act in a consultative capacity to other Occupational Therapists within the service.
  • Support and supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placement.

Quality Assurance & Practice Oversight

  • Review assessments, reports and intervention plans completed by Occupational Therapy team members to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Establish profession-specific quality standards and contribute to multidisciplinary standards of assessment and intervention.
  • Lead or contribute to clinical audit, outcome measurement, evaluation of practice and research as appropriate.
  • Compile and analyse KPIs and activity data, and use these to inform service improvement.
  • Ensure clinical records are accurate, up to date and meet professional, legal and data protection requirements.
  • Oversee the safe use, maintenance and review of all equipment supplied for Occupational Therapy purposes.

Training & Organisational Practice

  • Design and deliver training for employees, families and carers on implementing Occupational Therapy and sensory intervention plans, and monitor the impact and outcomes of same.
  • Promote Occupational Therapy across Resilience Healthcare and advise on future service developments and requirements.

Policy, Procedures & Best Practice

  • Contribute to the review and development of relevant policies, procedures, processes and best practice guidance in consultation with the team.
  • Ensure Occupational Therapy practice is delivered in line with HIQA National Standards, the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other relevant legislation.
  • Participate in specialist working groups as required, such as Human Rights, Restrictive Practices or Quality Improvement committees.

Collaboration & Team Working

  • Collaborate effectively with the team, keeping them up to date with all relevant information as deemed appropriate and agreed.
  • Work as part of the Clinical Services team and the wider multidisciplinary team, including Behaviour Support, to ensure a joined-up, person-centred approach for the people we support.
  • Maintain regular communication with Service Managers, Regional Managers and Community Services colleagues.
  • Build strong working relationships with external stakeholders, including referral agencies, schools, HSE disability teams and other professionals.

Education

  • Degree or Master’s in Occupational Therapy from a programme accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, or an international qualification recognised by CORU.
  • Registration with the CORU Occupational Therapists Registration Board; essential.
  • Membership of the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI); desired but not essential.
  • Postgraduate training in Sensory Integration; desired but not essential.
  • Be knowledgeable about trauma-informed care approaches and the social model of disability as core components of their work and ethics.
  • Children First and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults training, or willingness to complete on appointment.

Experience

  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist, including at least 6 months in the field of intellectual disability, physical disability, paediatrics or autism.
  • Have good experience of working with children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities and physical and sensory disabilities, and their families.
  • Be experienced in sensory integration assessment and intervention, including standardised assessments such as Sensory Profile 2, SPM-2, SOSI-M or MABC-2; desired but not essential.
  • Experience in seating and postural management assessment and intervention; desired but not essential.
  • Be experienced in developing and delivering training for employees, families and other professionals.
  • Experience of staff supervision; desired but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Irish disability legislation and frameworks, including the Disability Act 2005 (Assessment of Need) and Progressing Disability Services for Children and Young People.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, initiative and time management skills, with the ability to manage an independent caseload with competing demands.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness of their strengths and areas of continuing professional development as part of the individual’s personal development plan.

Exposure

  • Have a strong experience of working collaboratively as part of a clinical and multidisciplinary team.

Full driving licence and use of their own vehicle, with availability to travel to all service locations as required.
